It pays to be a school paper adviser

December 4, 2009

I’ve been to a lot of places which I thought before I couldn’t reach but because of my being a school paper adviser, I was able to visit, to see and to enjoy such places in Mindanao, Visayas and in Luzon. Imagine, travelling to these places with free travelling allowance, food and accomodation?  What a wonderful experience!

Not only that, I earned a lot of recognition awards as being the coach of the student-writers I tutored for the Division and Regional Schools Press Conferences.  Through me, they won awards and through them, I earned recognition awards, too.

Through my being a school paper adviser, I am able to reach Cebu City to attend an all-free expenses training from the PBSP-Smart Schools Program.

Thanks God for the wonderful experience.

The Blessings I Received from PBSP & Smart Schools Program

December 2, 2009

It is a blessing for me to be a participant in this 5-day Training sponsored by the PBSP and Smart Schools program here in Cebu City.  Aside fro the free travelling expenses and free hotel accomodation and food I am enjoying now, I receive free lessons journalism particularly in news writing feature writing and photojournalism.  My knowledge as a campus paper adviser is enhanced.  I also learned from the Photojournalism lessons how to edit phots from the web which I know will help me in my school papering.

Researching in the internet is also a very timely lesson I got from this training for my school requires us to utilize the Internet in our classroom activities so our students will enjoy the learning process.

I find it very useful also in my English classes especially to the 4th year students the blogging-on-line and Video blogging.  I may as well introduce this to my students for their group activities.

In the blogging, I may ask my students to blog their comments or insights about the lesson for the day.  In the video blogging, I will assign them to  cover  any school, barangay or town activities that may promote our town.

Another blessing that I, together with the whole community of Kiamba National High School is the website that smart schools program has gifted to our school.  Now, some of our Alumni can already access to us.

A million thanks to the PBSP and Smart School Program that has a big heart to share this wonderful blessing which the Almighty Father has blessed to them also. More Power to you and may you help more community of students in our country. God bless you more!

Reading Program in English

December 2, 2009

Another very good strategy in teaching reading in English is the MAM JO (More and More Jazz O’) for Reading.  Here, the student-reader is given pieces of reading materials like proverbs, quotations, or passages from the Bible which he is going to sing , or to rap  in the rhythm of a jazz as he dances to the tune of it.

Before he does this, the teacher let the student read the piece. Then he is ask to look for the keyword, give the meaning or synonym  of the keyword, then explain or give the insight he/she learns from the proverb, quotation or passage from the Bible.

This reading strategy is good for slow-readers who belong to the lowest section of the first year classes.
